RSU 14 School Board
Destiny Johnson
"Hello, I am Destiny Johnson, a mom of two from Windham running to be your next school board director. I will never forget the night of the Lewiston shooting when I crawled out of Schemengees while shots rang out. I know what fear feels like, and I cannot stand on the sidelines while Windham families and students wonder if their children are safe or if their sincerely held beliefs will be ignored. Our children have a right to innocence, safety, and a fair education.
In RSU14, many families believe their trust has been broken. Families were pushed out by government mandates. Parents were denied the chance to opt out of controversial content. Girls lost their sports and private spaces to boys. No parent should send their child to school worrying about safety, fairness, or whether their values are respected.
That is why I am running for the Windham school board. I will protect our kids, restore fairness, and make sure every student is prepared for college or a career. Starting in October and on Election Day, November 4, I ask for your vote for Destiny Johnson so we can make Windham schools safe, fair, and strong for every child." ~Destiny~
Discover Destiny Johnson: Your Devoted Champion for RSU14 School Board
Destiny Johnson’s story is one of resilience, courage, and a deep love for family and community. A proud resident of Windham and mom to children in the local schools, Destiny’s journey has shaped her into someone who doesn’t just talk about change—she lives it.
Destiny has always believed in hard work, responsibility, and standing up for what’s right. Those values became even more important when she became a mother. Raising her family in Windham, she’s seen both the strengths and challenges of the RSU 14 school district. Like many parents, she wants her kids to have access to strong academics, safe classrooms, and teachers who are supported—not weighed down. It was through her children that she first felt called to step up and make a difference.
In 2021, Destiny’s role as a mom led her to speak out publicly for the first time. After her son was given vaccines without her consent—despite a history of adverse reactions—she knew something had to change. She testified in support of L.D. 1292, a bill requiring parental consent for medical procedures on minors. It was a turning point in her life. What began as one mother fighting for her child grew into a lasting commitment to defending the voices of parents across Maine.
Two years later, Destiny’s life was shaken in a way few can imagine. On October 25, 2023, she was at Schemengees Bar & Grille in Lewiston when gunfire erupted. She escaped through the kitchen, running for her life as chaos unfolded around her. That night left deep scars—but it also strengthened her resolve. Destiny walked away with a renewed sense of purpose: the determination to never be powerless in the face of danger and to make safety a top priority for her family and community.
In the months that followed, Destiny carried that experience into her advocacy. She began speaking out about the importance of preparedness, strong community support systems, and creating safe spaces where people—especially children—can thrive. Her testimony before the Maine Legislature reflected not just policy positions, but lived experience. Destiny understands, in the most personal way, how critical it is that families and schools are equipped to protect and support the next generation.
For Destiny, running for the RSU 14 School Board is the natural next step. Her experiences have made safety more than just an issue—it’s a mission. She wants every child in Windham and Raymond to feel secure in their classrooms, supported by caring teachers, and protected by a district that takes student well-being seriously.
Her vision is clear and grounded in action. As your school board representative, Destiny will work to:
-
Put Student Safety First – Ensure classrooms are safe, secure, and prepared for emergencies so every child can focus on learning without fear.
-
Respect Parents’ Rights – Uphold parents as the primary decision-makers in their children’s education, including curriculum and medical consent.
-
Restore Fairness in Schools – Protect opportunities for girls in sports and private spaces while promoting fairness and respect for all students.
-
Strengthen Academics – Close learning gaps, improve student achievement, and prepare every graduate for college or a career.
-
Support Teachers – Provide educators with the resources and tools they need to succeed without overburdening them with unnecessary mandates.
-
Expand Mental Health & Well-Being – Increase access to student mental health support in a way that is stigma-free and free from political agendas.
-

-
Rebuild Trust & Transparency – Ensure open communication, accountability, and renewed trust between families and the district.
Those who know Destiny describe her as approachable, genuine, and determined. She’s a neighbor who understands the daily challenges of raising a family, and she brings that perspective to every decision. Her journey—from advocating for her son, to surviving tragedy, to standing up publicly for families—has given her both compassion and courage.
Destiny Johnson isn’t just asking for your vote—she’s inviting you to join her in creating schools where every child is safe, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.
