Vote Yes

Summary

This referendum strengthens Maine’s election integrity by requiring photographic identification for both in-person and absentee voting, a common-sense measure already in place in 36 other states. It ensures only eligible voters cast ballots, preventing fraud and enhancing public trust in election outcomes. The state will provide free nondriver ID cards to ensure accessibility for all Mainers, including provisions for those with religious objections to photography. The measure also streamlines absentee voting by requiring voters to request ballots for each election, reducing the risk of ballots being sent to outdated addresses. Additionally, it adjusts the absentee voting window by two days to allow election officials more time to process ballots accurately, minimizing errors and delays. Secure ballot dropboxes, managed by bipartisan teams, will be available in municipalities that choose to use them, promoting both accessibility and security. This referendum protects the democratic process while ensuring fair, transparent, and efficient elections. Vote YES on Question 1 to secure Maine’s elections.
